How long does the entire implant process take?
The implant procedure involves a series of steps and waiting periods before a final tooth will be seen in the mouth.
If there is insufficient bone in the jaw to hold an implant, a bone graft will be required, and that takes anywhere between 3-6 months to heal.
If a bone graft is not needed, then the implant can be placed into the jawbone and is usually buried under the gums. It also takes anywhere from 3-6 months for the implant to heal and firmly fuse to the bone.
After confirmation that the implant is stable, then your dentist can finally take a mold of the implant to allow the lab to make your abutment and crown. There is usually a 2-3 week turnaround time for the lab to make the prosthesis.
