What is a root canal?
Root canal therapy is one of the most delicate procedures in dentistry and requires a high degree of precision.
Essentially, root canal therapy aims to remove the nerves and blood vessels contained in an infected tooth, and to clean out all infection with disinfectants. After thorough cleaning, the root canal which once held all the nerves and blood vessels is sealed off to prevent further contamination and re-infection.
Because this tooth is now a dead tooth with no nerves or blood supply, it is considerably weaker. To protect and strengthen the tooth, a crown will be necessary in order to prevent tooth fracture.
